Last weekend saw the running of Rounds 3 & 4 and the culmination of the Steel City Drag Club’s Championship for the 23/24 race season.

This club is one of the very few drag racing clubs in Australia to have an internal Champion’s event each year and just as in previous years the fierceness and quality of the racing did not disappoint.

Although entrant numbers were down on previous rounds and the weather gods threw everything at the club’s resilient volunteers, 2 days of racing was completed in good spirit and with some awesome displays of racing abilities across all categories.

Billy Kuhn, sponsored by MAX Services, was able to take home the winner’s trophies on both days of racing. Never losing a race during competition in either round was a testament to his commitment to racing and his ability to stay focused through some testing weather conditions.

Out of the 10 or so runs completed over the weekend, all were recorded between 8.07 and 7.96 seconds over the eighth mile with speeds recorded between 79.5 to 81.5 miles per hour. Incredibly consistent racing !!! It must also be mentioned that his crew chief of the day ( Dad ) was extremely happy with the his efforts and it was obvious from the first qualifying run-on Saturday that “ Billy The Kid “ had come to win!

The 2 round wins were enough to also earn Billy the overall Club Champion in the Junior Dragster Eliminator. Well done, Billy Kuhn!
